New Student Orientation

All students beginning their studies at LMU this spring should attend a mandatory New Student Orientation on Friday, January 10, 2020 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. New Student Orientation is designed to welcome you to campus, prepare you to begin classes at LMU, and introduce you to the resources and opportunities available to you as a member of the LMU community. 

Immigration Session

In addition to attending New Student Orientation, international students must attend an immigration session on Friday, January 17, 2020 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m in University Hall 1000. You will also complete SEVIS registration with the Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS) at this time.

  • Friday, January 10

    8:30 a.m.–10:00 a.m. | Check-in & Campus Tours (Lawton Plaza)

    • Check-in for Orientation, enjoy a light continental breakfast, and mingle with LMU student leaders. Students and their guests are invited to participate in a 45 minute, student-led walking tour of the LMU campus. Tours will depart at 8:45 a.m., 9:00 a.m. & 9:15 a.m. 

    8:30 a.m.–10:00 a.m. | Information about International Student Requirments (Charles Von der Ahe Building, VDA 100) 

    • International students should plan to briefly meet with representatives from the Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS) and Student Health Services regarding requirements for international students.

    10:00 a.m.–10:45 a.m. | New Student Convocation (Sacred Heart Chapel)

    • Celebrate the start of your academic journey at LMU! This is the official university welcome for new students from LMU's faculty and leadership.

    11:00 a.m.–12:15 p.m. | Academics at LMU

    • Receive a welcome to your respective academic college and hear about the exciting opportunities for learning afforded to LMU students.

    12:15 a.m.–1:15 p.m. | Lunch (Lawton Plaza)

    • Enjoy lunch with your Orientation Leaders and other new students attending Orientation.

    1:15 p.m.–3:15 p.m. | Orientation Workshops & Activities (William H. Hannon Library & St. Robert's Hall)

    • Participate in workshops and activities designed to introduce you to important information you need to know to get started at LMU. 

    3:15 p.m.–3:30 p.m. |Public Safety (Charles Von der Ahe Building, VDA 100)

    • Learn about safety and emergency preparedness resources on LMU's campus.

    3:30 p.m.–4:00 p.m. | Live the Lion's Code (Charles Von der Ahe Building, VDA 100)

    • Encounter what it means to "Live the Lion's Code" in this introduction to your ORNT 2000 class.

    4:00 p.m.–5:00 p.m. | Schedule Scouting

    • Take this opportunity to receive a personalized tour of your first semester classroom locations. Make sure to note the locations of each class in your schedule so Orientation Leaders can assist you with navigation during this activity.

  • Saturday, January 11

    11:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m. | LMU Student Tailgate 

    • Rally together with new and returning students for a tailgate, hosted by LMU Athletics. Make new friends and get ready for an exciting game that offers a glimpse of LMU’s school spirit. The first 100 students admitted to the tailgate will receive free food. 

    1:00 p.m.–3:00 p.m. | LMU vs. Gonzaga (Men's Basketball)

    • In this annual match-up, LMU faces off against long-time rival, Gonzaga. Join new and returning students as they pack Gersten Pavilion to cheer on the men’s basketball team. New students are admitted free of charge by showing their LMU OneCard and should claim their ticket in advance here, entering their LMU Student ID as the passcode. Parents and family members of new students may attend but must purchase tickets in advance through LMU Athletics, using the code "ORIENTATIONGUEST." These tickets provide seating in a special section reserved for family members and guests of new students--separate from the student seating. 

  • Friday, January 17

    3:00 p.m.–5:00 p.m. | Required Immigration Session & SEVIS Registration | University Hall 1000

    • All new international students should plan to attend this mandatory immigration session, hosted by the Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS), which covers important information about maintaining your visa status while you are enrolled at LMU. You will also complete SEVIS regsitration during this session.
