Frequently Asked Questions for International Students

  • International Orientation is a series of information sessions and activities immediately prior to Orientation designed specifically for international students in F-1 status. International Orientation provides important information to international students regarding their immigration status, cultural and academic adjustment, and other aspects of life in the United States that orientation may not directly address. Attendance at international orientation events is mandatory for all students in F-1 status.

  • All first-year international students living on campus can move into on-campus housing on the morning of Friday, August 21st. Mandatory International Orientation activities will begin on Friday afternoon and continue through the conclusion of New Student Orientation Sunday, August 30. 

  • All F-1 students may enter the United States up to 30 days prior to their program start date.

  • Yes! US citizens living abroad are encouraged to attend the Orientation programming exclusively for international students from August 21-26. Students who are US citizens living abroad will automatically receive communication about International Orientation. If you are a US citizen living abroad and do not plan to attend the International Orientation programming, please contact to let us know about your situation.

  • Yes!  More information about International Parent Orientation can be found on the Parent and Families section of our website. 

  • Bring your passport with F1 visa, I-94 form, and immunization records when you arrive at International Orientation.

  • Yes!  Representatives from multiple businesses, including cell phone providers and financial institutions, will be present at International Orientation check-in.
